The Research Laboratory of New Energy and Materials Chemistry (Lab 202) belongs to the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET), Tsinghua University. Founded in 1997, it is a leading research institution in China focusing on advanced energy materials and technologies, covering the full chain from fundamental research, technology development and engineering to industrialization.
2. Academic Leader
Doctoral supervisor, is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher with nearly 30 years of expertise in lithium-ion battery materials and energy chemistry. He has led more than 30 national and international research projects, published over 650 SCI papers, authorized nearly 500 patents, and authored 5 monographs on lithium-ion battery materials and safety design.
3. Major Research Areas
High-energy-density cathodes, silicon-based anodes, solid-state electrolytes, high-voltage electrolytes, battery thermal safety, and large-scale manufacturing technologies.
Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), low-platinum / non-platinum electrocatalysts, membrane electrode assemblies, and hydrogen storage materials.
MOFs / COFs porous materials, high-end photoresists for semiconductors, sodium-ion batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries and other next-generation energy storage systems.

Equipped with full-set instruments for material synthesis, characterization, cell fabrication and performance testing.
Member of State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy and State Key Laboratory of New Ceramics and Fine Processing.
5. Achievements and Impact
The laboratory has achieved major breakthroughs in battery materials and safety technologies, with many results transferred to industrial applications. It has cultivated more than 200 graduate students and provided high-level talents for the new energy industry, supporting the development of electric vehicles and large-scale energy storage in China.

Based on interdisciplinary advantages of Tsinghua INET, the laboratory targets national strategic energy demands, commits to building a world-class research center for new energy and materials chemistry, and provides core technologies and talents for the “dual-carbon” goal and high-quality development of the new energy industry.
