1、Research fields
The New Materials Division (Divsion 301) of the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology of Tsinghua University was established in 1964. Main research field of the Division is "Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials", which includes nuclear fuel, nuclear materials, and new materials. The Division has complete qualifications for radioactive operation, physical protection systems, and quality assurance program, and is one of the few research organizations in China that can conduct teaching and experiment with real uranium. We offer graduate courses such as "Advanced Nuclear Fuel and Materials" and "Performance Analysis of Nuclear Fuel and Materials".
Focusing on the production technology and irradiation performance of spherical fuel elements, a key core technology of High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (HTGR), in-depth and persistent basic research and development of manufacturing processes, equipment, and testing technologies have been carried out. The research results obtained are at the world's leading level, and the relevant research results strongly support the construction of the North China Nuclear Fuel Element Production Line of CNNC. We have formed distinctive disciplinary advantages in the research and development of spherical fuel elements, the construction of spherical fuel element production line, the research and development of advanced nuclear fuels and materials, the research on the post-irradiation performance of nuclear fuels and materials, and the research on the first end of spherical spent fuel reprocessing.
The Division has established a large-scale comprehensive advanced research and development platform with advanced functions and complete supporting facilities, including experimental research, numerical simulation, pilot production, cold state and irradiation performance characterization measurement.
2、Laboratory and facilities
The Division has a long history of research in advanced nuclear fuel design, fabrication, and pre- and post-irradiation performance evaluation research, holding a Class A Qualification for radioactive operation. Hot cell platform: equiped with 5 concrete hot cells, 2 lead cells, 6 shielded glove boxes, etc. It can conduct heating experiments on spherical spent fuel under reactor operating conditions and simulated reactor accident conditions, as well as corrosion experiments on simulated reactor accidents. Spherical Fuel element production line: including the sol gel particle fabrication system, the fluidized bed chemical vapor deposition particle coating system, the spherical fuel element pressing system, and the physical and chemical performance analysis system. The Division has already equipped with large scale instruments and equipment. Sintering technology research platforms: atmospheric sintering furnaces, hot pressing sintering furnaces, and discharge plasma sintering furnaces. Material characterization and analysis platforms: high-resolution TEM electron microscopy, XPS, EMPA, SEM-EDS, GC-MS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, Raman, XRD, TG-MS, liquid scintillator, nanoindentation measurement, and material mechanical performance testing machines. |
