Areas of Research Interests/ Research Projects

Dr. Xie research interests mainly focus on the radiation safety of advanced nuclear energy systems, including reactor radiation safety, behavior of fission products, advanced reactor design and intersections with atomic and molecular physics.

Reactor Radiation Safety

Source terms study of the high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) and other types of reactors, including experimental measurement and theoretical calculations of fission products, activation products, tritium, carbon-14, and radioactive dust

Behavior of Fission Products

Generation, distribution and release of fission products in nuclear energy systems, interactions between radionuclides and materials, migration and diffusion behaviors of radionuclides in environment, especially focusing on tritium source term and behavior in advanced nuclear energy systems and environment

Advanced Reactor Design

Engineering design of radiation monitoring system in advanced reactors, especially establishing the monitoring and sampling methods for gas fission products, radioactive dust and tritium in the HTGR, source term analysis of the nuclear heating reactor (NHR) and high flux reactor (HFR)

Intersections with Atomic and Molecular Physics

Chemical states and reaction kinetics of nuclides in multicomponent and multiphase systems, fine and hyperfine structure analysis of nuclides, application of precision measurement technique in microwave electric field
