WNU Short Course on "The World Nuclear Industry Today"

                         11-15 July, 2022 (tentative)



The short course on “the world nuclear industry today” is a training programme co-hosted by the World 

Nuclear University (WNU) and the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET) of Tsinghua 

University (THU).

The course is designed to enhance the knowledge of attendees about the status of nuclear energy and 

technology in the world today and its likely development. The course also aims to inspire attendees to 

further their career in this exciting and expanding field.  For the participants, the expected outcomes of the 

short courses are:

ŸImproved knowledge and understanding about the role of nuclear science and technology in the world today;

ŸRecognition of how local skills and experience fit into the global nuclear picture;

ŸInspiration to develop an expansive vision of where the industry can go in the future;

ŸNetworking with nuclear professionals in their countries and with international experts.


Target participants include university students from science and engineering departments as well as legal, social and economic fields concerned with nuclear, environmental, energy and communication matters.


Leading world experts will present overviews of a full range of nuclear-related topics in an accessible way. 

Local experts present national capabilities in the nuclear area. Lecturers are encouraged to focus on key 

points and draw out relevant issues for further discussion.


The course encompasses a range of up-to-date topics with the aim of offering essential knowledge, a global perspective and an exciting vision of the future. The curriculum typically covers energy demand and supply, nuclear related technologies, safety, nuclear project management and effective communication. INET is a top research institute featuring interdisciplinary and comprehensive high-tech in the field of 

nuclear and new energy in China. It offers a well-organized graduate education system with 

multi-disciplinary and multi-directional features, covering reactor operation, reactor physics, reactor 

structure design, reactor control, radiation safety and protection, nuclear fuel cycle, advanced nuclear fuels, nuclear technology application, nuclear waste treatment, new energy technology, energy management and 

environment evaluation. The discipline “Nuclear Science and Technology” ranks first in the national 

evaluations. At present, INET can offer 6 doctoral degree programs, 9 master’s degree programs, and 1 

mobile center for post-doctoral research. From 1982 to 2021, around 1,700 masters and 600 doctoral 

students graduated from INET.
