INET Successfully Hosted the First Symposium on Fire Risk Assessment of Nuclear Power Plants

The first Symposium on Fire Risk Assessment of Nuclear Power Plants took place from September 11-12 2025, at the Beijing Xijiao Hotel. it was initiated and hosted by the Division of Nuclear Safety and Environment of the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET), Tsinghua University, in collaboration with the School of Safety Science of Tsinghua University, and the School of Emergency Management and Safety Engineering of China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing). China Society of Public Safety Science and Technology provided valuable guidance for this event.

The symposium brought together approximately 100 industry experts and scholars from nearly 30 institutions. Attendees included representatives from the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center (NRSC), research institutes of domestic major nuclear power groups, nuclear power plant operators, and key universities. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, such as fire prevention and control technologies, fire protection design and fire prevention strategies as well as fire risk assessment methodologies for nuclear power plants. A key focus of the event was also on exploring potential integration points and future collaboration between public safety fire prevention and nuclear facility fire risk assessment.

The first symposium on fire risk assessment of nuclear power plants aimed to promote fire prevention and control academic exchange and technological collaboration between nuclear power plants and public safety. The high-level platform for technical exchange and cooperation was established, aiming to enhance capabilities in nuclear power plant fire risk assessment and prevention, improve emergency management standards, and ultimately support the high-quality development of the nuclear energy industry.
