New Achievement: 《Experimental and Computational Multiphase Flow》Journal Attains Its Inaugural Impact Factor of 6.5

On June 28, 2023, Clarivate unveiled the much-anticipated Journal Citation Reports? for 2022. Among the highlights was the impressive performance of the international academic journal 《Experimental and Computational Multiphase Flow》. This pioneering publication, the brainchild of the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, has hit a significant milestone by achieving its inaugural Journal Impact Factor of 6.5. The journal has made its mark by ranking 9th among 164 journals in the “Mechanics” category, landing in the top 6% globally. Furthermore, it holds a prestigious 7th position out of 77 journals in the “Thermodynamics” category, placing it among the global top 9%. This stellar performance has earned it a spot in the Q1 quartile of the Web of Science Core Collection, affirming its rising influence in the scientific community
Simultaneously, Scopus unveiled its journal rankings for 2022, and the 《Experimental and Computational Multiphase Flow》journal continued its impressive streak. It achieved a remarkable CiteScore of 7.3 in 2022, further cementing its influence and prestige in the scientific community. The journal emerged as a leading voice in various categories. It stood 6th out of 68 journals in the “Energy: Nuclear Energy and Engineering” category, placing it in the top 9% worldwide. In the “Chemical Engineering: Fluid Flow and Transfer Processes” category, the journal secured 9th position among 92 journals, marking its place in the global top 10%. The journal also made a strong showing in the “Engineering: Mechanical Engineering” category, ranking 87th out of 631 journals, and thus entering the global top 14%. Furthermore, it achieved 12th place out of 81 journals in the “Physics and Astronomy: Nuclear and High Energy Physics” category, placing it in the global top 15%. This outstanding performance led to its placement in the Q1 quartile in each category, signifying its continued excellence and high academic standing.
Launched in March 2019, "Experimental and Computational Multiphase Flow" has quickly established its place in the scientific community. The journal is a collaborative effort hosted by Tsinghua University, academically supported by the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, published by Tsinghua University Press, and distributed internationally by Springer. The esteemed Professor Jiang Shengyao from the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology serves as the Editor-in-Chief, while Professor Tu Jiyuan of RMIT University in Australia provides his expertise as the co-Editor-in-Chief.
Prior to the creation of 《Experimental and Computational Multiphase Flow》(ECMF), Elsevier’s 《International Journal of Multiphase Flow》was the sole international academic journal devoted to publishing research results in the field of multiphase flow. The editorial board of 《ECMF》 was primarily composed of members from Europe and America, despite Chinese scholars contributing nearly a quarter of the academic papers. The launch of 《ECMF》represents an instrumental step in enhancing the representation and contribution of Chinese academia in this significant field of study.
In 2019, in response to General Secretary Xi Jinping’s call to “write papers on the homeland”, the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology organized the creation of 《ECMF》. This is the first international academic journal in the field of multiphase flow in China.
Given that multiphase flow is a multidisciplinary academic research field, the journal is committed to becoming a primary source of publication for original multiphase flow research and leading results in various academic fields, with a focus on reactor engineering multiphase flow. It provides a high-end platform for academic exchange and sharing among researchers in the field of multiphase flow both domestically and internationally. The journal aims to become a center for the dissemination and exchange of frontier academic thoughts, breakthroughs in engineering technologies, and innovations, promoting the high-quality intrinsic development of the discipline. At the same time, it showcases the latest achievements made by China in the field of multiphase flow to the world, enhancing China’s international discourse power and academic influence in the field of multiphase flow.
Currently, the journal has assembled an editorial board consisting of 37 domestic and international experts and scholars. Among them, 25 are international editors from 10 countries, including the United States, Germany, Japan, and Australia, accounting for 67.6% of the total.
Since its inception in 2019, the journal has published 20 issues comprising a total of 138 review and research papers. Some issues have been special editions of significant international academic conferences. The journal is currently operating smoothly according to an international publication model, which includes soliciting, reviewing, and publishing papers.
The journal was included in the Ei Compendex database on February 5, 2022, the Scopus database on April 6, 2022, and the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) on October 10, 2022. It received its first Impact Factor in June this year. In July 2022, it was selected for the “ROS” Journals (Hosted by Chinese Institutions) project and is about to obtain a unified domestic journal number (CN number).
《ECMF》journal remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence. It aims to match the standards of top international journals, continually improving its academic quality and level of publishing service, thereby making greater contributions to the development of scientific and technological innovations.
The journal encourages academic peers from related disciplines to provide robust support for its development. This support can be demonstrated by actively following the journal, submitting articles, reading, downloading, and citing its academic papers, which will further enhance its academic level and influence.
