Division of hazardous and radioactive waste management
The Division of hazardous and radioactive waste management is aiming at hazardous and radioactive wastes management, treatment and disposal. The division is in charge of treating low-level radioactive wastewater of INET. A wastewater evaporation facility and radioactive waste plant are included.
Research fields:
- Researches on radioactive waste water treatment using inorganic nano-membrane
Inorganic membranes manufactured form materials such as ceramics metal, graphite, and combinations of these have been produced or are under development in an attempt to alleviate some of the limiting features of polymeric membranes. They have gained popularity for applications in harsh operating environments where polymeric membranes would not perform well or would not survive at all. The the pore size of inorganic membranes will be selected. Complexing agents should be added in order to enlarge the ions and increase the decontamination factor. The infections of molecular weights on decontamination factors and permeate rates will be studied. The design and operating conditions will also be considered.
- Researches on cementation of radioactive waste resins
Solidification of radioactive waste resins using a kind of specific cement (ASC) has been carried out. Primary results demonstrated that the ASC cement has much better performance than ordinary cement with respect to mechanical strength, loading capacity and leaching rate.
Researches on the controlling the temperature rising caused by hydration of cement in 200 L solidification matrix has also been carried out.
Researches on cementation of high boric acid containing resins are also underway and will be used in Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station.
Main achievements
Researches on filter of liquid radioactive waste
Having established a scientific testing method for estimating quality of liquid radioactive waste filter and applied for manufacturing the filter cores. This method has provided scientific bases and parameters for designing the liquid radioactive waste filter in Qinsan Nuclear Power Plant. It has laid a key foundation for application of home-made filters in nuclear power plants.
Researches on entrance condition and pretreatment techniques of hazardous waste disposal plants
The pretreatment techniques of hazardous waste were studied. Different pretreatment techniques for specific hazardous wastes were developed and some of them were used for disposal of explosive waste in ShenZhen.
Designed and constructed the radioactive waste treatment facilities for the 10MW High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor
A radioactive waste cementation plant is constructed. The radioactive waste water evaporate plant was reconstructed.
