Division of Air Pollution Control

Division of air pollution control has been engaged in the research in the fields of aerosol science, gas-filtering mechanism, the air filter and filter media exploiting, air-conditioning and contamination control engineering since 1960s. Now this division is the administrative director of Chinese Contamination Control Society (CCCS) and the only organ entrusted by the National Standard Bureau, to be authorized to manufacture the filter efficiency measurement platform for high-efficiency filter media using sodium flame method, which won the 2nd class Prize of Science and Technology Advancement awarded by the National Education Commission. Meanwhile, this division is in charge of formulating the Chinese National Standard of “Method for testing the performance of high-efficiency filter media - penetration and resistance” (GB6166), which won the 3rd class Prize awarded by National Standard Bureau, and “Method for testing the performance of high-efficiency air filter - penetration and resistance” (GB6165). With the improvement of the faculty framework, air pollution control division has successfully expanded the research fields to industrial and indoor air contamination control and in situ detection technology in recent years. Now we have more than 30 experimental equipments and apparatus, which are used in the research of aerosol science and environmental catalysis.
Academics Research
1. Aerosol contamination control technology and gas-filtering mechanism
Air pollution control division boasts top-ranking experimental apparatus in China, including SMPS and CMAG by TSI. We have been carried out research in the fields of aerosol generation, dilution, filtration and measurement for more than 40 years, having accumulated fruitful experiences and acquired lots of great and creative achievements.
1.1 Aerosol Filtration Mechanism

  1. Research on solid aerosol filtration mechanism has been carried out and the results successfully applied to develop HEPA filter and filter media.

  2. Research on liquid aerosol filtration mechanism has been carried out and the results successfully applied to develop moisture separator.

1.2 Development of Tester for Filtration Products

  1. Model NLJ tester for HEPA filter media by sodium flame, has won 2nd class Prize of Science and Technology Advancement by National Education Commission and has been used by more than 30 users in China.
  2. Model LQJ tester for HEPA filter by sodium flame has been used by more than 10 users in China.
  3. Tester for HEPA filter media by counting method has been used to measure the counting efficiency of HEPA and ULPA media.

1.3 Research on the Performance of High-efficiency Filtration Media

  1. Research on the performance and filtration mechanism of high-efficiency filtration media, including PP fiber, fiberglass, nuclepore membrane and moisture separator media, etc, have been successfully applied in many technological fields, such as the development of HEPA and ULPA, air ultra-filtration, atmosphere sampling and nuclear air cleaning, etc.
  2. Project “Research on Anti-Radialization and Dust Capacity Performance and Filtration Mechanism for PP Filter Media” supported by China National Nuclear Cooperation (CNNC), won the 3rd class Prize of Science and Technology Advancement awarded by CNNC.
  3. Project “Research on Filtration Mechanism for Nuclepore Membrane” supported by Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Basic Research Fund of Tsinghua Univivesity.

1.4 Research and Application of in-place Test Technology

  1. Research and Application of the in-place Test Technology for Nuclear Air Cleaning System, including aerosol generation and measurement, test system designing and mounting, numerical simulation and computation for velocity fields and concentration fields, etc.
  2. Research and Application of in-place Test Technology for Cleanroom, including aerosol generation and measurement, development of automatic test systems, etc.

2. Industrial and indoor air contamination control and detection technology
The division is now performing the study on the industrial and indoor air contamination control technology, such as the fast detection technology, the high-efficiency adsorption and the catalytic removal of air pollutants. Now the division has the convenient condition for the air pollutant sampling and analysis, and a series of equipments for the preparation and moulding of catalysts or adsorbents. We also have a system of fixed-bed micro-reactor connected with gas chromatography used for the analysis of catalyst performance and adsorption property in dynamic.
2.1 Complete projects
We have finished the project “The transformation of fluorid in the flue gas of metallurgy plant”.
2.2 Ongoing projects
1)Indoor air contamination control

  1. Exploitation of the air contamination controller with specific modules for the decontamination of particulate, volatile chemical species and microbial pollutants.

  2. Experimental research on the high-efficiency adsorption of radon for indoor air control.
  3. Fast detection technology of indoor air contamination.

2)Flue gas desulfrication and denitrification (FGD) technology for the power plant

  1. Experimental research on the flue gas desulfrication technology by MnO2
  2. Investigation on the flue gas desulfrication assisted by radiation technology
  3. Study on the catalytic denitrification technology of the power plant

3)Diesel particulate control technology

  1. Design and experimental research on the high-efficiency diesel particulate filter (DPF)
  2. Experimental research on the environmental-friendly diesel comburant
  3. Catalytic regeneration technology of diesel particulate filter (DPF)

3. Air-conditioning and contamination control engineering
Air pollution control division has abundant and well-established large-scale engineering design experiences, and can carry out all kinds of cleaning, air conditioning, ventilation design and cleanroom test projects.
Achievements

  1. Two HAVC system design projects in 5MW Nuclear Heating Reactor (NHR-5) and 10MW High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (HTR-10).
  2. Project on “Research on Refrigeration System in 5MW Nuclear Heating Reactor”, has achieved 3rd Class Science and Technology Advanced Prize by National Education Bureau.
  3. Design projects on ventilation and filtration system for radioactive room.
