Division of Nuclear Chemistry and Engineering

The research areas in this division mainly include partitioning of high level waste (HLW), separation of actinides from lanthanides, development of centrifugal contactor for nuclear industry, monitoring and control of pulsed extraction column, and application of nuclear porous membranes. An HLW partitioning process, TRPO process, was established in the early 1980s at INET to separate uranium and the transuranium elements from HLW. A highly effective technology for separating actinide/lanthanide by Cyanex 301 extraction has also been developed in recent years. In addition, a miniature centrifugal contactor with 5ml single-stage holdup has been developed for the hot test in the research of HLW partitioning.
