NHR-5
Nuclear Heating Reactor
Research on the Nuclear Heating Reactor (NHR-5) started
in the early 1980s, and it was put into operation in 1989.
It is a vessel type light water reactor with advanced
features, including integral arrangement, natural circulation,
hydraulic control rod driving and passive safety systems.
Many experiments have been conducted on the NHR-5, such
as heat-electricity cogeneration, air-conditioning and
seawater desalination. At the same time, a 200MW Nuclear
Heating Reactor (NHR-200) has been developed, and an NHR-200
demonstration plant is to be built as a heat source for
seawater desalination.
